Bloomsday 2009

June 16th is Bloomsday, a day that celebrates the life of Irelands' most famous writer. The day is celebrated every year by Joyceans all over the world. June 16th is the day in 1904 on which all the action of James Joyce's novel Ulysses takes place.

Bloomsday celebrations go on for a week (June 10th - 16th) with the main events taking place on the day itself. It is traditional to dress up and go out for the day, visiting the locations of the book and taking part in readings, walks and activities that all relate to the book and it's author in some way.
